About this Artwork

In Hawaiian culture, quilts are treasured as family heirlooms passed down through generations. They're traditionally made to mark milestones and given as ceremonial gifts at weddings and births. The patterns themselves carry meaning — often inspired by Hawaiian legends and nature and chosen for their personal or family significance. In this way, each quilt becomes a way to pass stories, knowledge, and identity from one generation to the next.
